What level of UKHab training is this course?

Intermediate

Who is this course suitable for?

Practitioners who have completed the UKHab Beginners’ training courses or are already familiar with mapping habitats using other classifications.

Do I need to have used UKHab already?

No. Some participants will have started using UKHab and wish to check and improve their skills, including the coverage of new content in V2.0.

What does the course cover?

The UKHab Version 2.0 (2023) hierarchical structure and secondary codes are described in detail, including new codes. Mapping protocols, including the use of polygon, line and point features, are explained. Attendees are asked to do simple identification and mapping on screen using the coding system and field key. UKHab applications in ecological practice (such as being the basis of Biodiversity Net Gain) are discussed.

  • Survey planning and design.
  • Using the Habitat Field Key and other UKHab resources.
  • Identify and describe habitat features using Primary and Secondary Codes.
  • Awareness of applications of UKHab in ecological practice.
  • Understand how UKHab fits into the BNG process.

How is this course delivered?

This online course runs over two days. Each day consists of a 3-hour session starting at 10 a.m. Between the two sessions, participants will be asked to complete a short task, which should take about an hour.
