What level of UKHab training is this course?

Beginner and Intermediate

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is predominantly aimed at individuals with little or no experience of recording habitats. It is suitable for students or those who have just qualified as well as those with some experience of other habitat classifications now switching to using UKHab.

Do I need to have used UKHab already?

No. This course will often be completed before attending an online intermediate course such as UKHab Introduction for Practitioners.

What does the course cover?

The UK Habitat Classification (“UKHab”) will be introduced with a focus on identifying and mapping natural and man-made habitats on the edge of urbanisation.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the structure of UKHab
  • Identify and describe UKHab (Version 2.0) habitat features using Primary and Secondary Codes.
  • Map area, linear and point habitat features in the field.
  • Awareness of how frequently encountered habitats on urban fringes are mapped.
  • Understand how habitat survey can form the basis of conservation action plans.
